Scale

Module
  1. Main Input Connect any audio or CV source to this input.
  2. ÷10 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude divided by 10.
  3. ÷5 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude divided by 5.
  4. ÷2 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude divided by 2.
  5. x2 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude multiplied by 2.
  6. x5 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude multiplied by 5.
  7. x10 Output Copy of the input signal with its amplitude multiplied by 10.

Overview

The Scale module divides or multiplies the amplitude of an audio or CV signal.

This is the easiest way to scale audio or CV signal precisely. It pairs well with the Bias module.

Usage

Connect a signal to into the In jack, and connect the appropriate output to another module.

For audio signals, the most obvious use is to lower or boost the volume:

  • ÷10: -20dB
  • ÷5: approximately -14dB
  • ÷2: approximately -6dB
  • ×2: approximately +6dB
  • ×5: approximately +14dB
  • ×10: +20dB

For CV signals, here are a few ideas on how to use the different outputs:

  • ÷10: scale down a LFO before connecting it to a frequency modulation input to create a vibrato.
  • ÷5: scale a bipolar signal such as a LFO from ±5V to ±1V.
  • ÷2: scale a unipolar signal from 0–10V to 0–5V so that its amplitude matches the positive part of a bipolar signal.
  • ×2: scale a bipolar signal from ±5V to ±10V so that the amplitude of its positive part matches a unipolar signal (e.g. for use as the CV input on a VCA).
  • ×5 and ×10: boost the low output of a Slew Limiter, which happens when the input is a short or high-frequency signal and the slew rate is low.
