2024–04–23 ⚓︎ The Dynamic Pitch Update—Multiphonics CV-2 gets new update version 2.2

Applied Acoustics Systems releases version 2.2 of the Multiphonics CV-2 modular synthesizer

Montreal, Quebec—April 23, 2024—Applied Acoustics Systems announces the official release of version 2.2 of its Multiphonics CV-2 modular synthesizer for macOS and Windows.

This new version, a thematic update dedicated to pitch and dynamics, brings five new modules to the Multiphonics library: a pitch detector, a pitch shifter, an envelope follower, an RMS extractor, and a useful arithmetic module. The update also includes 30 new factory synthesizer and effects patches highlighting these new modules.

“With these additions to our modular library, our aim was to broaden the scope of the FX version which was introduced with Multiphonics CV-2” says Benoit Charland, lead product manager at Applied Acoustics Systems, “These new modules were specifically designed to create volume and pitch effects such as compressors, expanders, limiters, auto-filters, tracking filters, auto-tuning, harmonizers, and pitch shifters. They open up a whole new world of creative possibilities as is showcased in the new patches which we had a lot of fun creating for this update in collaboration with sound designer and long-time collaborator Adam Pietruskzo.“

This so-called dynamic pitch update is free of charge for registered Multiphonics CV-2 users and is available directly from the AAS user portal. Multiphonics CV-2 is available at the suggested retail price of US$149. Multiphonics CV-2 runs on both macOS and Windows in 64-bit host sequencers that support the VST2, VST3, Audio Units, and AAX Native formats.

2021–04–27 ⚓︎ Venus Theory tutorial series released

Multiphonics CV-1 Tutorial 1—Getting Started

In this tutorial, you will learn the basics of patching in Multiphonics by creating a simple synthesizer based on subtractive synthesis.

Multiphonics CV-1 Tutorial 2—The Objeq Filter Module

The Objeq Filter module allows one to process a signal through acoustic objects such as a string, plate, drumhead, membrane, beam, and bar. This tutorial will teach you how to get the best out of this powerful module.

Multiphonics CV-1 Tutorial 3—The VCA Module

A VCA is an essential module in a modular rack. In this tutorial, you will learn about two important roles the VCA can play in a patch. First, how the VCA can be used to control the amplitude of an audio signal and then how it can add expression to a patch by controlling the amplitude of a modulation.

Multiphonics CV-1 Tutorial 4—The Delay Module

A Delay is another deceptively simple module which can be used in surprising ways. In this tutorial, we first go over the basics and show how to use the module to delay an audio signal. You will learn how to use feedback loops in order to obtain interesting echo effects and how to use the module to create stereo movements in your patches. We then look at how the module can be used to delay CV signals thereby adding motion to modulations. We conclude this tutorial with an example inspired from physical modeling in which the module is used in a waveguide-like manner and becomes a pitched sound source.
