Loren Gold![]() A Few Words with Loren GoldHow did you get started making music? It was a natural development for me. I grew up listening to singer/songwriters and their writing influences spilled over into the music I was playing. I wanted to create my own original material just like my heroes. What were important influences for you back then and what still influences you? I have said this before in various interviews, but from a musical standpoint the biggest impact on me was Paul McCartney. His songwriting, musicianship, and performing style was my inspiration. I have been influenced by several bands and artists from different eras. Starting with The Beatles, I would then list Stevie Wonder, Billy Joel, and Elton John. That's my big four! You've been touring and done a lot of session work, and now you've released your third album. Is it all the same for you or each type of work present a different set of challenges? Each project definitely presents a different set of challenges. With studio work, there is an opportunity to shine and leave a special mark on someone else's project, which is very fulfilling. You also get to be diverse and try different styles if you are lucky. With my own music, the biggest challenge for me is to try and do something different each time. Like maybe next time I'll really go crazy and see how far can I go without delivering something too over the top! You told us that Lounge Lizard was now your default electric piano. How do AAS instruments help with your creative process? AAS definitely has some keyboard players in their camp, because Lounge Lizard is the best sounding plug-in for electric pianos—period. When it is not convenient for me to use my Rhodes and I need something on the fly or on the road, I do not hesitate using Lounge Lizard. I really like the Classic Tracks presets from the songs we grew up on. The effects are a real plus, too. Finally, what's coming next? ![]() Thanks Loren! |
